Brian and Maria Krull’s mission is to restore historic buildings to their beauty and function while adding modern features that today expects. The former Glenview Hotel is a building of significance in the Mount Carroll Historic District, listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. The Krull’s hard work and passion can be seen in the personal touches by visiting the now Bridgewater Inn in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. Guests enjoy a feeling of quiet solace where they can reconnect and recharge while enjoying the simpler things in life.
Challenge: Maria Krull first came to the Illinois SBDC at Sauk Valley Community College in September 2021. She sought assistance in finding grants to help bring an 1886 hotel back to life with structural updates such as windows and wiring.
How Illinois SBDC helped: During the first session, Business Advisor Pam Clodfelter met with Maria to provide her with the services we offer and to learn more about her business goals and aspirations. Pam had learned that our assistance was needed to create a business plan and identify grants to which she could apply. In addition, Pam encourages Maria to review their marketing plan and website to reflect the upgrades she is making to the inn.
Result: With a completed business plan and solid financial forecast, Northern Hospitality LLC has successfully applied for a few grants. Funds received assist in the daunting task of replacing most of the 85 windows (most openings require two windows) and upgrading the electrical system.
