After acquiring over 15 years of experience in the food service industry, Edgar had a dream of starting and owning a family-run restaurant in Sterling!
Challenge: Edgar presented to the Illinois SBDC in July 2024, where he sought assistance in starting a restaurant in Sterling. As with having prior experience in the food service industry, Edgar understood the daily operations of a well-functioning restaurant. Still, he needed to confirm how to register as a formal business with a new name as well as obtain funding for his new business venture.
How Illinois SBDC helped: Edgar met with his business advisor, Justin Bergman, where they worked together on creating a comprehensive business plan with financial projections, including mapping out his revenue streams and long-term goals. Edgar and Justin also worked together to establish his Limited Liability Company and completed all Federal, State, and Local forms for his new start-up restaurant, including working with the Whiteside County Health Department. Edgar and Justin also worked together to obtain financing for his start-up restaurant through a business loan.
Result: In December 2024, Primo’s Bar and Grill officially opened in Sterling, IL. Edgar successfully obtained funding through Central Bank Illinois. Edgar also purchased a new building for his restaurant and designed it with a family-friendly atmosphere for the Sauk Valley to enjoy, along with an affordable menu for his customers.
