Lanark Body Shop

Mike Gasca is the proud new owner of Lanark Body Shop, a place he’s called his work home since 2017. Over the years, Mike has gotten to know the ins and outs of the shop, its customers, and the community – making his transition from employee to owner a natural next step. Mike is ready to grow Lanark Body Shop and keep serving the community he cares about.

Challenge:  As a first-time business owner, Mike needed guidance on navigating the purchasing options and operational and compliance responsibilities, including understanding sales tax filing requirements and deadlines. He was also evaluating when to hire additional staff as workload demands increase, while balancing the shop’s current ability to independently manage four to five projects at a time. In addition, Mike wanted to improve the shop’s marketing presence, strengthen branding efforts, and ensure proper financial systems were established to support long-term growth.

How Illinois SBDC helped: Since first connecting with the SBDC in April 2025, business advisor Pam Clodfelter guided Mike through purchasing the shop by addressing registration requirements, sales tax filing, and operational responsibilities. Pam helped Mike evaluate staffing needs and bookkeeping systems, and provided marketing and branding strategies tailored to his goals. Thanks to SBDC support, Mike made informed hiring decisions, enhanced the shop’s marketing presence, and established financial systems essential for growth.

Result: Mike secured funding to purchase the body shop in March 2026. Through streamlined operations, enhanced bookkeeping, and a stronger online customer outreach, he positions Lanark Body Shop for sustained growth.
