The grand opening, held in collaboration with the Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce, included a ribbon-cutting on Friday, April 24. Owner Samantha Setchell aimed to align this exciting event with Independent Bookstore Day.

Challenge: In April 2025, Samantha sought advice on how to craft a business plan to secure funding to renovate a historic building in Mendota, where she planned to open her book-and-gift shop. She wanted guidance on everything necessary to get her store up and running successfully.

How Illinois SBDC helped: Business advisor Pam Clodfelter provided valuable insights into funding options and outlined the steps needed to create a comprehensive business plan, supported by relevant market data. She also assisted Samantha in the process of becoming a registered LLC in Illinois.

Result: The grand opening, held in collaboration with the Mendota Area Chamber of Commerce, included a ribbon-cutting on Friday, April 24, 2026. Owner Samantha Setchell aimed to align this exciting event with Independent Bookstore Day.
