Rock Star Donuts

Paz Martinez wanted to give back to the community where he was raised – in the form of a better donut. His desire to create an authentic hometown bakery with a 1950s diner nostalgic feel was met with a resounding “yes” during his week-long soft opening by the community. Daily he increased production, and daily he sold out of product. Some days within three hours, and he opens at 5 am! Within the first five days, the bakery had sold approximately 6000 donuts.

Challenge: Paz first came to the Illinois SBDC at Sauk Valley Community College in May 2022. He sought assistance on funding including SBA loans, veteran assistance and grants.

How Illinois SBDC helped: During the first session, Business Advisor Pam Clodfelter met with Paz to provide him with the services we offer and to learn more about his business goals and aspirations. Pam had learned that our assistance was needed to help complete the appropriate registrations to form the LLC. In addition, we worked on creating a complete business plan so that he could apply for the Advantage Illinois program.

Result: Rock*Star Donuts LLC was officially formed in June 2022. He qualified for the Advantage Illinois program. After significant renovations, the donut shop was opened to customers in April 2023.
